While springtime for many means spring break, brackets, and Opening Day there are a few men a Taylor Allderdice who trade in their baseball bats for helmets and elbow pads. These men make of the Allderdice lacrosse team, who began practicing in March for the 2007 season. After a disappointing season last year, the team got a face-lift with the hiring of first-year head coach John Stehle. Stehle is the husband of Allderdice science teacher, Stephanie Stehle, who is also an assistant coach on the Allderdice girl’s softball team. The male Stehle has taken the helm of the team along with one of the original founders of the Allderdice lacrosse team, Ned O’Donnelly. The first priority of the two new coaches is to overcome the loss of Ben Levine, arguably the team’s top player last year, who graduated in 2006. The team doesn’t seem to worried about the absence of Levine, though. “Last year, we kind of just passed the ball to Ben and let him to all the scoring,” said sophomore Eric Levine. “This year, we have more plays, and a bunch of guys that can score.” The younger Levine, who is the brother of the aforementioned Ben, is one of ten sophomores that make up the Dragon’s squad this year. Along with these ten, who include Eric Gross, Aaron Zell, and Nick Zioencheck, the team is led by its five seniors. Sthephen Krasnow, Zach Green, Greg Schaffer, Nick Kuntz, and Sam McNalty are the vocal leaders of this year’s team both on and off of the field. These seniors, along with the other members of the team, are more than happy to be back on the field this spring. Their Allderdice lacrosse future looked like it might come to a sudden halt last year, when the team did not have a coach. However, Ben Levine was able to find a replacement at the last minute. This set a tempo for the season last year, and unfortunately the team finished way below expectations. After the season, the interim head coach left, and Stehle was hired.
