Interim Principal Cassandra Richardson-Kemp has left her position in the main office. Bernard Komorosky, formerly principal of Carrick High School, is now in the same position at Allderdice. Komorosky served in the Pittsburgh Public School District for 31 years before retiring from his position at Carrick in 2003. He began his career as a teacher at Allegheney High School and has also served as principal of South Hills Middle School and Assistant Principal of several District schools. He has not held a District position since his retirement. Komorosky will remain principal at least through the conclusion of this school year. Beyond that time, though, uncertainty exists. Komorosky called his job status for the 2007-2008 school year "completely up in the air." For the time being, Komorosky cited discipline and creating an enjoyable environment as major areas of concern. “We need order in this building,” he said. “Taylor Allderdice is responsible for providing social skills for students regarding areas such as tardiness, language, and dress. I believe students want a disciplined environment." "I want to have a building that [the teachers and students] want to go to; I want students to enjoy school and teachers to enjoy their jobs.” Kemp, who came out of retirement in September to serve as Interim Principal, declined to confirm the finality of her second retirement in less than a year when asked by The Foreword. Kemp retired after the conclusion of the 2005-2006 school year due to family concerns, but returned to office after Kevin McGuire was removed less than one month into the current school year. “It has been a joy and an honor to serve as acting principal of Allderdice this year,” said Kemp in a prepared statement. “I wish [the faculty, staff] and the entire Allderdice High School community success as you work together to support the school district’s version of Excellence for All.” Kemp had previously endorsed Vice Principal Nina Sacco-Bristow to succeed her as principal, but gave Komorosky a vote of confidence none the less. “Under Mr. Komorosky’s leadership I am certain that Allderdice will continue to serve as a model for educational excellence.” Komorosky is Allderdice’s fourth principal in as many years. Kemp replaced Dr. F. Robert McMurray after the 2004-2005 school year before retiring June 30, 2006. McGuire took office that same summer and was removed September 28. |
