Some know him as Dan, some as Mr. K, some as Coach K, and some as Mr. Kornosky, but whatever the name, Daniel Kornosky is known as a celebrity throughout Allderdice. “Every day I walk through the hallways I feel like I’m going to break my neck for every person I have to say ‘hi’ to,” said Kornosky, technically a base spare substitute. “So many people know me through teaching so many different subjects and subbing.” “We call him Coach K because he told us to 'call me Mr. K' and somehow it evolved into Coach K,” said junior Kornosky fan Carolyn Marthens. “It’s more distinctive when being shouted in the halls.” Whether it is from English, social studies, math, construction, or Spanish classes or from ski trips, or just because of his likable personality, students and teachers from all around Allderdice know Dan Kornosky. “Every day I come here, not knowing what adventure I’m going to tackle,” said Kornosky, a Bethel Park native and 2001 graduate of Bethel Park High School. “In my younger days, I could be seen riding the 47 L trolley” Kornosky attended the University of Pittsburgh as a history major until he graduated in 2005 and went to Duquesne University for his masters degree in education in 2006. In high school Kornosky was captain of the two time state champion ice hockey team at Bethel Park. He was also a member of team Pittsburgh, an ice hockey team that competed in the Chicago Showcase national high school ice hockey tournament. He was also a YMCA scholar athlete award recipient as one of the top high school athletes in PA. “I played in college my freshman year, but then I decided to concentrate more on school since I knew I wasn’t going to the NHL,” said Kornosky.
